Hi. My name is Maryann Goldman. Some of my friends think of me as fotomom because I have two boys, 5 and 7, and I'm always out and about with them taking pictures.
Ever since I was a kid, I've enjoyed taking pictures. For a while, I had my Dad's Brownie camera. I took it on a few elementary school trips. Already, I was lining up classmates for group shots and taking pics of historical sites. In a few years, Dad upgraded me to a Minolta 110 and then a Ricoh 35mm. I kept snapping. Family vacations, ceremonies, 4-H cooking all were occasions for more pictures. About the time I moved up to a nice Minolta 35mm camera, digital cameras hit the market. I've had several of those starting off with a 2MP Kodak and moving up to a Cannon Powershot S3. In 2007, I took nearly 30,000 pics. That won't shock my friends who always see me camera in hand, but it's a lot of pics.
I take pics for a lot of reasons. One would be to share what I'm doing with Dad who lives 4 hours away. Another would be the delight I see in people's eyes when I've caught them in a nice pic, maybe even with kids or loved ones, and later delivered them a soft or hard copy of the print. Pictures can warm hearts. To an extent, I'm trying to save happy memories for me down the road and for my kids. There's also the thrill of trying to get the perfect shot and the chance to keep trying until I get it right.
I still take lots of pictures on vacations, and I especially like taking pictures at events like birthday parties. But, lately, I've ventured out to take a closer look at the beautiful world around us and the wonderful things going on in nature. It can be so calming.
If you've gotten this far in the bio, you've probably got time to take a look at a few of my galleries. Enjoy!
