Thanks for stopping by to view my daily photo! I will post a new photo each day to this gallery. Typically, I will post early morning, and the photo will have been taken the day before. Sometimes the photo may be from sometime earlier in the week, but all the pictures posted will be relatively new. I hope you see something that makes you smile. 05/10/13 - Red Headed Woodpecker

My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2013/05/red-headed-woodpecker.html

Although I have red-bellied, downy, hairy, northern flicker, and yellow bellied sapsucker woodpeckers in my yard and even and occasional pileated woodpecker, I've never had a red headed woodpecker. However, a couple of miles away in a swampy area, I often see red headed woodpeckers nesting. You have to stop along the road and really look hard, but yes, you can see them. How exciting!

I even got the red headed woodpecker at the entrence to his/her nest. I saw the bird go in and waited for an out shot but the bird didn't come back out before I had to go.

I posted the shot above as my daily. I actually meant to post this one which I think is a bit better.

Seen on the route between our house and the boys' school. Posting a 'friend' of his for tomorrow's picture too.

05/08/13 - It's Getting Crowded in Here!

My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2013/05/its-getting-crowded-in-here.html

This is day 6 or 7. So I don't confuse us, let's just say it's 7. They aren't looking anywhere near as bald anymore:-) Mom and dad were very vocal overhead as I looked in today. Any day now they should open their eyes. I'll check back in again in a couple of days. I would love to have one of those open mouth shots, but they instinctively are still when I look in.

Here's the dad.

Here's the mom.

The tulip popular nearby is blooming and very pretty too.

05/07/13 - Peony

My Blog:

A peony bloom after a hard rain. This is such a different variety than I grew up with, but I think it's quite pretty.

05/06/13 - Growing

My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2013/05/growing.html

I managed to get a quick shot of the babies today. There was a 10 minute window of sunshine before the heavy rains hit, and I boogied over to the box quick. Notice that the wing tips are starting to form and there is more 'hair' on their heads. All 5 appear to be doing well. I heard mom and dad overhead as I was 'visiting'. I'll keep you posted with more pics as they get bigger.

05/05/13 - Sunday Dinner

My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2013/05/sunday-dinner.html

We often have roast chicken on Sundays, and this Sunday was no exception with a high near 60 and wind and clouds. It turned out yummy. This is Joey's plate: a breast with wing, cauliflower mash, and green beans.

Please see yesterday's daily for some more information on the bluebirds. And a big thanks for all your comments. My right hand is totally numb as I type this from the carpal tunnel flair up I'm having. I just can't type much more than this.

05/04/13 - Male Bluebird with Worm (Feeding Time)

My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2013/05/male-bluebird-with-worm-feeding-time.html

Another shot of the father bluebird bringing his babies some food. Feeding 5 babies keeps the parents very busy.

To answer a few questions from yesterday.
1. Our boxes are about 5' off the ground. We followed the box hanging instructions on this site.
2. There is a nesting cup in the box that allows me to lift it out for viewing. We can do things like make sure there are no Cowbird eggs in the box.
3. We wait to inspect the eggs or babies until the parents are out of the box and only are in the area of the box for a few minutes. The usually watch overhead and then go right back into the box.
4. We'll stop looking in on the babies when they start to get near fledging so that we don't cause them to fledge prematurely.
5. I'll get more pictures this week but our weather is cold, windy, and rainy, so I may have to wait a few days until the weather is good enough to peek in.

05/03/13 - Bluebird Babies

My Blog: http://maryanng.blogspot.com/2013/05/bluebird-babies.html

The babies hatched either yesterday or today. We are very pleased! Mom and Dad were busy going in and out of the bluebird house feeding them, and I got some pics of them too.
