11/17/10 - It's Raining Leaves
Last year this time, I took a picture of these leaf covered steps at work, but it was a straight down try to line up all the lines style shot. This year, I was watching and waiting for the scene again. Yesterday was the day. I decided a tilted approach might work better. I know some of the other employees walking by thought I was nuts and had to go around me, but oh well:-) Hand held at low light with a slight color/contrast adjust on Picasa.
Boy did it get scary at 12:15AM. I had nodded off with the computer in my lap to wake up to tunneling and howling wind outside. I knew we were under a tornado watch until 4AM. Buddy, one of our dogs, started whimpering and sounding very scared. I suspect he felt the pressure change as the cold air behind the front met the 65 degree air already here. It was intense for a few minutes but thankfully I'm not seeing any reports of damage on the news. I slept better once it settled down.
We are at peak leaf color right now. Raleigh has such a long growing season that we are behind many of the rest of you. We've had a few very light frosts, but not a hard one yet. I will try to grab some more color today.
Thank you so much for yesterday's comments on the fall scene. Wish you all could have seen it in person. Private property. No trespassing sign. The fence wrapped around and out along the road which is where I was. I used the fence post as my tripod. I took the shot quick and got outta there;-) I suspect the owners weren't worried about photographers but definitely didn't want folks down there fishing or taking their dogs to swim. Oh well.
