08/31/09 - Finally, my duty is over. And let me tell you, it's not a moment too soon. I had several call-outs yesterday with the last really sweet one being at 2AM this morning, so I am ready to hand the pager over to someone else! Duty week was hard on me and the boys. They had way too much TV yesterday because of it:-( Trying not to beat myself up over it because I really couldn't help it.
I took some outside shots yesterday on the way to town and near my usual swamp spot. Those pics included a great blue heron and a hawk and a bee on a flower and none of them popped. So, I tried out one of my new pieces of glass last night. Up until recently, I never altered my glass shots with any pp. Maybe it was a sense of pride to get a cool shot the natural way. But, this shot needed some help, so I used the posterize filter on it and then a contrast adjust and here you have it. I did a square crop on the center of the picture to pull the sun out, and one of those shots is here:
I played with the twirl and spherize filters too, and those were kindof neat!
It's cloudy and raining again. At this rate, you'll get a glass shot tomorrow too:-)
The tree that the downy woodpecker was on for that neat bark was a Sweet Gum. And, I am using Red Hot Pepper suet from Home Depot to attract the woodpeckers. In the colder months, I put out black oil sunflower seed at my feeding area too, but this time of year it's just suet. All the birds eat the suet too...titmouse, chickadee on the suet and cardinal and wren on the ground eating dropped suet bits. The suet is an all around winner. Thank you for the positive feedback on that picture. She was a cutie.
To keep me honest, I want to say that I know that my SmugMug home page needs some help. One of these days real soon I'm gonna organize things better! I promise... I want to make a Best Of glass folder and combine the other Glass Appeal albums into a group folder. Sometime soon...
