08/15/09 - This is Gus. He's a 4 year old Black Bear that lives at the Museum of Life and Science in Durham, NC http://www.ncmls.org. He is one of 4 bears living at the museum all of which were rescued for some reason. He's the only male. Virginia, Mimi, and Ursala are the rest of his 'family'. We really lucked out during our visit to the museum yesterday, because we went to the bear habitat while the keeper, Erin, was throwing out a snack to the bears. The bears came up as close to us (15') as the water barrier would let allow retrieve their snack. We got to see them swim. They stood up playfully to pose for us. Gus even sat down in this cute pose for a few minutes. It was a great 15 minute 'show'. I had so many good bear pics that it was VERY hard to pick which one to post. If you have time, check out the collage of the best bear shots here:
There is also a kid collage and an engineers day activities collage.
Between the kids and I, we took 700 pictures yesterday:-) It was a great day! I often tell folks that you can tell whether or not I had a good day by the number of pictures I took.
